Description
Job Title: Contracts / Operations Manager
Location: Markyate (Hertfordshire)
Salary: £45,000 - £55,000
Job Type: Permanent, Full Time (7:00/7:30am - 4:00/4:30pm)
At SB Drain Services Ltd, the survey and remedial engineers fix the problems below ground. They need someone to run the works above ground.
You’ll sit at the centre of the team and take each job from the first phone call through to the finished work.
This isn't a desk job with a rigid process manual. You'll get real autonomy to shape how the role works, from how you schedule to how you quote, and to make it your own. Joining a team of 12, you'll work closely with the Head of Operations and the MD, who will back your decisions and want to hear your ideas. In a small team, what you do shows up straight away.
About the company:
The team at SB Drain Services Ltd have built a strong reputation for reliability and engineering expertise, providing drainage, preventative maintenance and groundwork solutions for domestic, commercial and industrial customers.
They provide certified, professional drainage services using the latest technology and industry best practices.
Job Description:
What your week actually looks like:
No two days are the same. On Monday, a CCTV survey might turn up a collapsed pipe, and by Tuesday, you've quoted it, scheduled it and written the RAMS. On Wednesday, a client calls in a panic and you rearrange the diary so they get seen. On Thursday, a job turns out bigger than the survey showed, and you're talking it through with the engineer on site and agreeing a variation with the client.
Key responsibilities
● Taking enquiries: You'll be the first voice clients hear and the person who works out what they need
● Quoting: You'll turn survey findings and site information into clear, accurate, profitable quotes, then follow them up
● Scheduling: You'll plan the diary for the survey and remedial engineers, balancing urgent work, planned jobs, travel and the skills each job needs
● Writing RAMS: You'll produce job-specific risk assessments and method statements that reflect what's really happening on site.
● Organising projects: Larger remedial jobs need materials, plant, access, permits and client updates, and you'll make sure nothing gets missed
● Being the link: You'll keep clients informed and keep engineers supported, so there are no surprises on either side
The Successful Candidate Should Have / Be:
● At least 2 years’ experience in Contracts or Operations Management (within a related sector)
● At least 2 years’ experience within the drainage industry
● Experience writing RAMS
● Seriously organised and able to juggle a full diary in a calm manner without dropping anything
● A strong communicator, whether reassuring a client, briefing an engineer or chasing a supplier
● Comfortable putting prices together and confident standing behind them
● Someone who takes ownership and doesn't wait to be told what to do next
● A full UK driving licence
Desirable
● Experience using scheduling/job management software, ideally BigChange
● Experience using itouch
● Some understanding of CCTV drain survey reports or remedial techniques such as patch lining and excavation
What SB Drainage Services Ltd can offer you
● Holiday allowance
● Holiday buy-back scheme
● Pension
● Bonus
● Company vehicle
● A role that will progress with the company
