Civil Project Manager – EPC / Principal Contractor

Are you a civil-qualified Project Manager with a passion for large-scale infrastructure delivery? Join a pioneering EPC business and lead the delivery of one of the UK’s most significant BESS projects.

Role Overview

As Project Manager, you will take full ownership of the end-to-end delivery of a 500MW BESS project, acting as Principal Contractor. You will drive performance across civil, electrical, and commissioning scopes, ensuring alignment with programme, budget, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Project Leadership and Delivery

• Lead the EPC scope from pre-construction through commissioning
• Coordinate subcontractors across multi-disciplines
• Collaborate with internal engineering, procurement, and project controls teams

Team Management

• Provide leadership to construction managers, site managers, and site engineers
• Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement

Stakeholder Management

• Build strong relationships with National Grid, regulators, councils, and consultants
• Represent the company in external meetings and negotiations

Planning and Execution

• Liaise with the project controls team and oversee detailed planning, scheduling, procurement, and execution
• Ensure full compliance with regulatory, environmental, and safety standards

Risk and Issue Management

• Identify and mitigate risks, especially around grid connection and permitting
• Implement contingency plans to minimise disruption

Process Improvement

• Champion digital tools and automation to enhance EPC efficiency
• Contribute to standardised procedures and best practices

Performance Monitoring

• Establish robust reporting on progress, budget, and quality
• Provide regular updates to senior leadership and stakeholders

Commercial and Financial Support

• Advise on financial model inputs including grid costs and construction timelines
• Support contract negotiations and change management with subcontractors

Knowledge Sharing

• Mentor junior team members

Candidate Profile

• Civil engineering qualification and proven experience in project delivery with a principal contracting organisation
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
• Experience with large infrastructure projects
• Ability to manage complex interfaces and drive project success
