We’re looking for a Heritage Consultant to join a leading architecture and heritage consultancy in London. This is a chance to work on some of the UK’s most complex and fascinating historic sites, helping to conserve and sustainably evolve them for the future.

The Role

As a Heritage Consultant, you’ll be part of a collaborative London and South East team, delivering independent and team-based project work. You’ll advise on heritage planning policy, research historic buildings and sites, and produce detailed, analytical reports. Expect a mix of desk-based and on-site investigations, with the chance to manage smaller projects and contribute to larger bids. Some UK travel (including occasional overnight stays) will be required.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide expert advice on heritage assets to clients and internal teams
  • Undertake archival research, site investigations, and visual analysis
  • Prepare clear, well-written documents including:
  • Heritage Impact Assessments
  • Heritage Statements (RIBA Stage 1 & 2)
  • Conservation Management Plans
  • Archaeological Desk-based Assessments
  • Conservation area/townscape appraisals
  • Historic Building Recording
  • Environmental Statement Chapters
  • Manage small-scale projects independently and support larger bids
  • Prepare project fee proposals and contribute to public engagement

About You

  • At least 3 years’ experience as a heritage consultant in a commercial environment
  • Master’s degree (or higher) in heritage, architecture, or related field
  • Strong knowledge of UK heritage planning legislation and listed building consent process
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage workload, budgets, and deadlines
  • Proactive, adaptable, and detail-focused with a “can-do” approach
  • Working knowledge of GIS software (advantageous)
  • Membership of IHBC or CIfA (desirable)
  • UK driving licence (desirable, for travel to remote locations)

Why Join?

You’ll be part of an established heritage consultancy with a strong reputation for excellence. This role offers the opportunity to work on nationally significant projects, develop your expertise, and contribute to meaningful conservation outcomes.
