About the role:

To grow and strengthen our team of Inclusive Design professionals further, we are seeking to find an ambitious and self-driven Senior Inclusive Design Consultant with a background in accessible and inclusive design and the built environment in general, to help deliver our ambitious plans. In this role, you will be involved in a variety of client projects, in the UK and globally, which all aim to transform spaces and lives through beautifully designed, inclusive environments that deliver independence for anyone with a disability or in need of extra support.

What you’ll be doing:

Reporting to our Design Team Lead, you will make an impact by -

  • Undertaking detailed inclusive design and access audits/appraisals of buildings and public realm, including project site visits, virtual reviews of design schemes plans and CAD drawings;
  • Identifying inclusive design and accessibility challenges, presenting proposed improvements as a prioritised set of short to longer term recommendations;
  • Producing inclusive design and access reports, statements and management plans, presentations and publications, as well as end of RIBA work stage reports to the highest standard, ensuring that all decisions and recommendations made represent Motionspot’s approach to inclusive design;
  • Identifying and apply relevant accessibility building regulations, inclusive design standards and leading best practice design guidance applicable to each project;
  • Providing ongoing inclusive design and access advisory support throughout the duration of projects from concept to post-occupancy;
  • Facilitating user-group engagement research and workshops to support Motionspot’s evidence-based approach, comprised of a diverse range of users such as those with lived experience of disability and other protected characteristics (Equality Act, 2010);
  • Working to ensure projects are delivered within agreed timelines and that client requirements are met;
  • Leading meetings with clients, other professionals, and suppliers and presenting Motionspot reports, presentations and other deliverables;
  • Providing support and mentorship for other Inclusive Design Team members on their projects; 
  • Representing Motionspot on-line and in-person, including delivering CPD’s and speaking at industry events to raise Motionspot’s profile, creating training and thought leadership content, and helping to generate new business opportunities for the company.

What we’re looking for:

To be successful in this role, you should bring -

  • Passion for inclusive design of the built environment, and an interest in wider inclusion topics, such as gender diversity, neurodiversity, equitable placemaking, or similar
  • Degree/qualification in the built environment, accessible design, or another relevant field (architecture, interior design or similar)
  • High degree of working knowledge of relevant UK and European legislation, building regulations as well as best practice guidance and demonstrable experience in working with and interpretating them
  • Achievement of (or be working towards) NRAC consultant level accreditation
  • Inclusive design and/or access consultancy experience or similar with a proven track record advising on inclusive design and working with key stakeholders, clients, and organisations
  • Human factors qualification and accreditations of advantage
  • ​Great passion for innovation and futureproofing developments coupled with an ability to share this effectively with others
  • Experience of working with existing data, carrying out research and producing evidence and summarise findings, inform and develop solutions with the ability to prepare clear and comprehensive reports, including but not limited to access audits and design appraisals
  • Practical and solution-focused attitude and the ability to provide best practice guidance to clients
  • Excellent communication and writing skills with attention to detail and an eye for beautiful graphics and design
  • Great organisational skills, including your own time management, project management and ability to clearly organise and document research
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to multitask and undertake work across several projects at the same time
  • Excellent presentation skills and confidence to present to others
  • Excellent Microsoft office and Adobe Creative Suite skills
  • Understanding of AutoCAD and the ability to create designs of advantage

The role is a permanent and full-time position. It will be office based with the opportunity to work remotely. All applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
